On the Ridge
On the Ridge was my first short film made in March 2025, I wanted to try out some skills I'd learned in college and wanted something to get my personal brand out there, so I get my friend Louis Atherton to ride one of our local trails this also gave me the opportunity to try out my camera properly, I borrowed some gear from college and brought some myself and I believe it really came out well.
A Glimpse Through Time
A glimpse through time was my first big college project, I spend many nights up late rendering and fine tuning, I wanted to show how even though something may look broken it can always bounce back or even become a better version and that why I showed a dystopian future and very modern crowded future, I re-rendered the final piece many many times as something was always wrong, I planned to remove the people from the final piece but didn't have time and I still wanted to have crowds in the last scene so I had too quickly get a green screen crowd off google as I'd ran out of time. There were a lot of struggle while making this video from me using my laptop to model and texture my models at college to having the re-rending but in the end I managed to put together a short piece that I was very happy with, the music I used is A Serenade to Kathy which I found looking through short films from creators I'd seen before.
Young Mind Psychological chase
This was our final year project and through the stress of my "A Glimpse Through Time" project I definitely did more time management, this short film went through a day with our character Ruby, I did a lot of planning before hand testing all the shots and a lot of time practicing two shots, the first is the shot where the camera moves over the bed 5 seconds in, you cant actually see the bed but it takes up around 3/4 of the room, I thankfully got to borrow a gimbal from college to keep the shot steady, I did have to crawl over the bed but I think the final shot came out well, the next shot that was challenging was the shot 25 seconds in, I wasn't able to use the gimbal for this shot, there is about 20 minutes worth of footage of us trying to use the gimbal but the calibration was off and the app wasn't working so in the end I decided to go handheld, however I do feel it depicts here emotion as the camera gets less and less stable throughout, I had to edit myself out of the window in this shot which didn't take long and I had luckily planned before hand, for that shot I took one video with no one in and then rotoscoped myself out the actual video and filled the shot in with the empty shot. I wanted to use some more slow motion shots in the film personally but I couldn't think of where else to use it. The spinning trees and wildlife signifies Ruby's mind going into panic and getting worse as she runs away, for the shot at the end where Ruby falls over I placed a mat on the floor and did the same technique as before with the mirror by filming an empty shot and just rotoscoping the mat out, I think the final piece came out very well and I'm very please with how I did on the project with editing.
This was the first documentary I was apart of and had the chance of being the main videographer for the piece, to learn more about it you can watch the full video
After we had finished college I wanted something to do in the holidays and I'd just recently brought a new Samyang 35-150mm lens so I wanted to try it out, thankfully my lecturer was still in college so I was able to borrow some gear, I wanted to make a sort of cinematic/fast paced short film and before the shoot I head a song in the car which was right here right now, and I knew that the start of the song is quite slow so my first half of the shoot we filmed all the shots in slow motion and the next shots I turned my shutter speed down to get shutter drag which I found out worked really well, I really enjoyed making and editing this video and I was able to work with a brand after creating this video which I am so happy about, I also made some connections through the rider for ITV which is again amazing, I think that going out and filming anything you like is refreshing and I love doing it, our summer project is too make a music video now I could've probably submitted this but I decided instead to make a cinematic video about my holiday a lot of the videos shot were on a boat trip so I definitely have some shaky footage to go through.
